Mobile Music Studio on the Road to Success

Carlos in his element
Living from and for music has always been Carlos Toro Florez’s dream. That a boy who fled Colombia at the age of 9 would achieve that dream by 29 is a remarkable story.
Carlos grew up in Colombia, but when his father faced political persecution, the family was forced to flee. At just nine years old, Carlos arrived in Switzerland, where he finally felt safe. After completing secondary school, he chose a practical path and trained as a polybuilder, completing his apprenticeship in 2013.
But music – especially jazz and his beloved drums – never let go. He enrolled in a jazz music program, supported emotionally and financially by his wife.
From dream to business
In 2021, Carlos took a bold step: he rented an old firehouse in Embrach to offer music lessons. It was a hit – soon, he was earning a steady income. But not all students could come to him, so he came up with a unique idea: a mobile music studio. He converted a Mercedes Sprinter and began offering lessons on the go. Word spread fast. He hired other instructors and expanded to include guitar, bass, and piano lessons.
One bus wasn’t enough
Demand grew – but space in the bus was limited. He needed a second vehicle. Having exhausted his funds on the first van, he recalled hearing about GO! Mikrokredite at a startup seminar.
Carlos signed up for an initial consultation and spent hours preparing a detailed budget. But he was surprised when the advisor simplified everything – creating a clear, logical financial plan. “Complicated can be made simple,” Carlos later said.
In July 2023, Carlos purchased his second bus. Now with two mobile studios and a team of instructors, he’s bringing music directly to his students and inspiring a new generation of musicians.
